At present there are eight Export Processing Zones (EPZs) in Bangladesh. The BEPZA (Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority) is the official organ of the government to promote, attract and facilitate foreign investment in all the EPZs. Eight EPZs are the Adamjee EPZ, Chattogram EPZ, Cumilla EPZ, Dhaka EPZ, Ishwardi EPZ, Karnaphuli EPZ, Mongla EPZ and Uttara EPZ. Among all of the zones the Cumilla Export Processing Zone is playing an important role in the national economy.

In the year 2001-02 total amount exported from this EPZ was only 0.01 million US$ but in the recent year 2017-18 total exported amount became 2427.65 million US$. In the fiscal year 2001-02 only 0.64 million US$ were invested in Comilla EPZ and in recent year 2017-18 the investment amount became 315.51 million US$. In the year 2001-02 employment facility was only for 442 peoples but in the recent year 2017-18 total employment facility in this zone became for 31648 peoples.

Comilla EPZ was established in the year 2000 at the Comilla Airport area near Tomsom Bridge. Total land area of this zone is 267.46 acres with 238 industrial plots. At present there are total fifty Bangladeshi and Foreign Investors are running their factories, they are manufacturing different products and providing services.
