Seasonal Fruits in Brahmanpara Upazila | Cumilla

Local Market, Hat, Bazaar in Brahmanpara upazila under Cumilla district is full of seasonal fruits. Though there is dissatisfaction among the buyers about the prices. The seasonal change and turning has come in the nature. After a year, the Bangla month Joishtho which is the symbol of Mango, Jackfruit, Litchi and other seasonal fruits has come once again.

The summer season is also called month of honey in the country. At this time, various types of summer fruits can be seen all over the country. Like every year, various fruit markets of Brahmanpara upazila of Comilla district are flooded with summer seasonal fruits.

However, even though it is seasonal, the price of these fruits is also quite high. So there is dissatisfaction among the buyers about the prices. Fruit sellers are also admitting that prices are high. They said, this time we have to buy fruits from the wholesale market at a slightly higher price than last year. Due to which it is having an impact on the retail market.

In the Brahmanpara Sadar area, almost every market has summer seasonal fruit ceremonies. These fruits include litchi, jackfruit, mango, palm oil, pineapple etc. Besides, fruits like bel, melons and watermelons are also seen in the markets as the season is coming to an end. The aroma of these fruits is spreading in every market.

Among the summer seasonal fruits, litchi is currently at the top of the buyers' demand in the market. Besides, many people in the neighborhood are selling seasonal fruits in vans. Fruits are being sold at slightly lower prices from the markets in the mobile shops of the van. Sahebabad area, one of the fruit markets of the upazila, it is seen that the sellers are busy selling seasonal fruits. They are placing seasonal fruits in front of the main store, calling out to shoppers and trying to attract them.

Litchi is being sold more in the market. Besides, different varieties of mangoes including Himsagar and Lengra are also found in the fruit shops. However, even though litchi is fully mature, mango has just started coming to the market. Traders expect that most of the fruit market will be occupied by sweet and juicy mangoes soon.

At present the litchi is the most sold item in the market. Depending on the type, 100 litchis are being sold at BDT 250 to 300. This time the price is a bit higher than last time. But still buyers are buying litchi the most. Each store is selling more litchi than other fruits.

Besides, mangoes include Himsagar, Nakla and Langra. Himsagar is being sold at TK 80-90, Nakla at TK 70-80 and Lengra at TK 80-90.

Pineapples are being sold at TK 80-100 per hali / 4 pieces.

Taler Shash is being sold at TK 20 per piece.

The jackfruit is very expensive. Each piece is being sold for TK 200-250.

Watermelons are being sold for TK 300 to 500 per piece.

However, sellers say that prices will continue to fall as soon as more fruit arrives in the market. They said that the sales of mangoes had not yet picked up. However, litchi is now in full season. So the litchi business is booming. Besides, there are still watermelons in the market at the end of the season. Mango sales will freeze from next week.

A buyer who came to buy seasonal fruits, said, "I bought 100 litchis for TK 300." Although there are plenty of seasonal fruits in the market, the prices are high. So many family members will not able to eat these seasonal fruits even if they want to. The administration should monitor the market regularly. So that all classes of buyers can buy these seasonal fruits.

Besides, visiting different markets of the upazila, one can see various types of fruits. In this market, hilly jackfruits and pineapples from the border areas of India are sold in large quantities. Border traders are selling seasonal fruits like jackfruit, pineapple and banana on bicycles. In this regard, the general buyers said that if the administration does a little monitoring, people of all walks of life will be able to eat seasonal fruits at this time of the year.

Natural Gas in Bangladesh | Reserve for next 100 Years

Reserves of valuable minerals including Monazite, Zircon, Rutile, Calcium Carbonate, Phosphorus, Sulphate and Rare earth elements have been found in an area of around ​​3,100 Square Km at the bottom of the Bay of Bengal. In addition, a potential 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserve has been found at the bottom of the ocean, with which it is possible to meet the demand of Natural Gas in Bangladesh for the next 100 years.

At present, Reserve of Natural Gas in Bangladesh will be able to serve the country for next 14 years only. Researchers of our country think that in order to develop the Blue Economy of Bangladesh through efficient use of marine resources and the invented technology should be used at the field level. Natural gas in Bangladesh is one of the main resources for the overall development of the country.

This information was given recently by the speakers and researchers at a seminar titled 'Efficient Use and Challenges of Marine Resources for the Development of Blue Economy' organized at the auditorium of Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute (BORI) at Pechar Dwip, Cox's Bazar. Cox's Bazar Marine Fisheries and Technology Center Chief Scientific Officer Mr. Shafiqur Rahman presented the keynote address at the seminar.

Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘Bangladesh has the exclusive marine economic zone up to about 200 nautical miles in the sea, but on an average we are able to use only 30 nautical miles. In addition, commercial trawlers are not allowed to fish at depths below 40 meters, but they do not comply. Due to lack of fishing experience in the deep sea level, the fishermen of our country are fishing near the coastline. However, some fishermen are being brought from Sri Lanka for training purposes so that our fishermen can also bring fish from the deep sea.

Dr. Shafiq said, ‘Lots of Artemia are imported from abroad every year for use as pony food in hatcheries. But three decades ago, scientists of our country have successfully invented the technology to produce Artemia. Scientists of Bangladesh have invented many technologies in the past for the economic development for the people of this country. But that technology was not used at the field level. In order to develop Blue Economy of Bangladesh, it is not only necessary to innovate the technology, it is also necessary to use that technology at the practical level'.

A total of seven articles including research results of Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute for the financial year 2019-20 were presented in the seminar. At the seminar, Mohammad Zakaria, Senior Scientific Officer, Department of Geological Oceanography, Marine Research Institute, presented the results of a geological survey of rare mineral resources at the bottom of the Bay of Bengal. Valuable minerals including monazite, zircon, rutile, calcium carbonate, phosphorus, sulphate and rare earth elements have been found in an area of ​​3,100 sq km at the bottom of the Bay of Bengal. In addition, a potential 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserve for Bangladesh has been found at the bottom of the ocean, with which we will be able to meet our next 100 years of natural gas demand. At present, natural gas in Bangladesh has only 14 years of reserves.

During the seminar, Mr. Tariqul Islam, Scientific Officer, Department of Chemical Oceanography, Mr. Rupak Lodh and Mr. Shahinur Rahman, Scientific Officer, Department of Physical and Space Oceanography, Scientific Officer, Department of Environmental and Climate Research, Department of Oceanography Officers Mir Kashem and Sultan Al Nahyan and Tania Islam, Scientific Officer at the Oceanography Data Center, presented research papers on the potential of depleted food stocks.

Iti Rani Poddar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, was the chief guest at the seminar, which was chaired by Mr. Shafiqur Rahman, Director General, Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute. In addition, the director of the Atomic Energy Commission beach mineral sand extraction center took part in the discussion. Mohammad Masud Karim, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment Sheikh Nazmul Huda, Fisheries expert Palash Khandaker, Ecolife Manager Md. Abdul Qayyum, industrialist Omar Hasan, journalist Ahmad Gias and others.

Bangladesh currently has demand for 3.7 billion cubic feet natural gas per day (bcfd), whereas the gas supply is 2.7bcfd - a massive shortage of 1bcfd of natural gas every day. The reserve of Natural Gas in Bangladesh will be able to run the country for next 14 years. So the government should take proper decisions and steps to utilize the reserved 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas found beneath the Bay of Bengal.

New Gas well discovered in Srikail | Muradnagar | Cumilla

State oil gas exploration company Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) have discovered a new gas well at Srikail in Cumilla district. The newly discovered Srikail East-1 gas field is located in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla. It is the country's 28th gas field. BAPEX hopes to extract 20 million cubic feet of gas daily from this gas field. BAPEX started digging for gas wells here on October 28 last year. BAPEX sees this as a hope for the country's natural gas.

BAPEX engineers confirmed the gas level on 03 March 2020, Tuesday after a long four-month excavation work. About two years later a new gas well was discovered in the country. Now in the field the amount of water with gas and the pressure of the gas are monitoring and within few days the task of lifting will be started. As per provided NEWS on various newspapers, the gas pressure is currently 2,000 psr which is higher than other fields. It will be possible to lift 20 million cubic feet of gas daily from this gas field which is located at 3,065 meters beneath the surface. There are process plants nearby. It will be possible to ensure gas supply only by installing a 10 km pipeline from this well to the plant.

After four-month excavation, new gas wells were found under the Srikail gas field. The state-owned oil gas exploration and leasing company BAPEX is happy to find a new gas well in the country. The general public and the government are happy to find new gas amid disappointment over reports of gas leakage in the country.

The well under the Srikail gas field is under the Sreekail East-1 exploration well, the Rupkalpa-1 Khanan Prakalpa located in Bangura, Hajipur, of ​​Nabinagar Upazila, Brahmanbaria district. Digging was started from October last year and the gas started coming out on 2nd March after a pressure test by opening the well with technical explosive. The test is now being conducted to determine how much of this gas can be lifted commercially.

Initially, BAPEX can easily supply 10-12 million cubic feet of gas per day from here which can be lift up to 20 million cubic feet. As long as the pipeline is pulled up with the srikail main process plant, the gas of this well will be added to the national grid. As soon as the government finishes acquiring land and other materials to build the pipeline, gas from this well will be added to the national grid.

According to the BAPEX data, after the three-dimensional geological survey in 2017 and 2018, BAPEX identified existence of gas at that location. Later on 28 October 2019, they started digging the project by planting a rig in the agricultural land at Hajipur village. The excavation was completed on 31 January 2020. After several tests, the gas pressure test was started from 2nd March with the experimental pipe under fire.

BAPEX could not find any new gas fields or wells in the country for last 2 years. The officials of this organization are now very happy to discover the well after such a long time. The pressure and volume of gas in the well has already stirred hope. They think gas will be accessible to the general public as soon as government allocation is available.

There are lots various known and not known birds in the border area of ​​the Jambari forest area. Here some visitors visit by their own initiative. The forest office and staff quarters are broken. Local people of Jambari are using these for cows and goats.

Each natural Shal tree in the natural salon supplies seven time oxygen compared to other trees. The natural salon has the importance of protecting the world's natural balance.

Some wild fruit trees should be preserved in order to preserve biodiversity. Besides, there is a need for bush for breeding animals. There are some rattan plants in Rajeshpur area. The atmospheric monitoring of the Environment Department of the Government declared that the air in Cumilla city is lowest among all other cities currently monitoring regularly based on the Air Quality Index report. Among total Sixteen air monitoring stations in the country, four are in Dhaka (Farmgate, Parliament House, Darussalam and Savar), two in Chittagong, One perpetual air monitoring station is located in Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barisal, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Comilla and Narsingdi.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a tool for reporting daily air quality of any city or country. It tells how clean or polluted the air is, and what associated health effects might be a concern for public. The AQI focuses on health effects that one might experience within a few hours or days after breathing polluted air.

The station indicates that among all the cities the air of Cumilla is most pure. The air pollutant parameter is estimated at PM 2.5. According to the Department of Environment, air quality in different cities of the country is as follows:

Air pollution is caused due to presence of carbon dioxide, lead, nitrogen oxide and other protruding particles in the air. Air in Savar area is very much polluted among all other areas in capital city Dhaka. Air Quality Index (air quality) for Dhaka city 115, but in Savar it is 135. Rangpur, a city that has more air pollutants than Dhaka, the air pollutant parameter in the city is 128.

In Bangladesh the AQI is based on 5 criteria pollutants; Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2 and Ozone (O3). The Department of Environment (DoE) has also set national ambient air quality standards for these pollutants. These standards aim to protect against adverse human health impacts.

Considering the health concerns, the of air quality index is:

• Air quality is 0 to 50 means Good Quality.
• Between 51 and 100 means Medium Quality.
• Between 101 to 150 means Caution or Warning.
• Between 151 to 200 means Unhealthy.
• Between 201 to 300 means Very Unhealthy.
• From 301 to 500 means Extremely Unsafe.

Savar in the capital Dhaka and Rangpur, these places are in caution / warning labels for health concerns. In Narayanganj and Gazipur area Health concern due to air pollution is medium. The lowest air pollution is in Comilla and Mymensingh district. Apart from this, Chittagong, Sylhet and Barisal are among the cities with significant health concerns.

Expert doctors say that due to air pollution, the risk of developing respiratory, heart disease, cancer and diabetes is created. Apart from this, obstructing the development of the child's intelligence, including disfigurement of the fetus in the mother's womb in the obstetricians.
