Dhaka to Comilla JAM FREE Alternate Route

The Dhaka - Cumilla - Chittagong highway (N1) has been recently upgraded to four lane but the gridlock / traffic jam on this National Highway sometimes become intolerable. Huge numbers of vehicles are using this economic corridor of the country and the number is increasing day by day.

Due to ongoing construction work of three bridges Kanchpur, Meghna and Gomti-Meghna, the traffic jam gets bigger especially on holidays or weekends. Hundreds of vehicles get stuck on the highway adding to people’s suffering. Journey through the existing railway between Cumilla to Dhaka takes around four hours. But the actual journey time between this route is only one to one and half hour (if stays free).

Anyway, in this post I am going to show you an alternate route from Dhaka to Cumilla, using this route you will be able to go from Dhaka – Cumilla – Dhaka without facing any type of gridlock or traffic jam. Personally I use this route sometimes to get rid of terrible gridlock on this highway. Just see the below screenshots taken from Google map.

  • From Gulistan Dhaka to Chashara, Narayangonj by bus. From Gulistan bus stand buses are available such as Sheetal A/C, Bandhan, Utshob, Himachal, Moitri service etc.

  • Chashara to Nabigonj Godara Ghat- Narayangonj by Rickshaw, or Tempo

  • Cross the Shitalokkhya River by Trawler, Boat or Ferry to opposite side Nabigonj Ghat bus stop

  • Nabigonj Ghat CNG station / Bus Stand to Mograpara Chourasta (Sonargaon) by CNG

  • Cross the Highway through Foot Over Bridge at Mograpara Chourasta (Sonargaon), and from Bata show room (Mograpara Chourasta – East Side) to Boiddar Bazar Boat Terminal by CNG

  • From Boiddar Bazar Boat Terminal to Chandanpur Launch Terminal by Speed Boat or Trawler

  • From Chandanpur Bazar to Muktinagar / Manikarchar Bazar by Auto-Bike / CNG

  • From Manikarchar Bazar to Mathabhabga Sinaya (Homna-Gouripur Road)

  • From Sinaya to Gouripur Moor Bus Stand by CNG

  • From Gouripur Bus Stand to Cumilla by Bus

If Jam continues from Daudkandi Gouripur to Cantonment then Another route from Mathabhabga Sinaya (Homna-Gouripur Road):

  • From Sinaya to Homna Chourasta or Homna Hospital Road CNG Station by CNG

  • From Homna to Companigonj Bus Stand (Comilla – Sylhet highway) by CNG

  • From Companigonj Bus Stand to Cumilla by Bus

This route is local and always remains free from any kind traffic jam. I use this route when there any gridlock or jam in the Dhaka – Cumilla highway. Total fare is little more but the journey is adventures and interesting. It will be easier if you take help from the local people or Google map.

Thanks a lot.

Various Opinion about the Origin of the Upazila name BARURA

History and Background:
Barura Upazila came into existence in 1948 as a Thana. Nothing is definitely known about the origin of the upazila name. It is learnt that in the past there grew huge quantity of betel leaf in this locality and hence there were a large number of Bara (meaning garden of betel leaf) in this area. It is generally believed that the upazila name Barura might have originated from the word Bar. Another opinion in this regard is that there lived people of a community called Barua in this locality in consequence of which the upazila name might have originated as Barura.

The upazila occupies an area of 241.69 sq. km. It is located between 23°14' and 23°27' north latitudes and between 90°56' and 91°08' east longitudes.
