Metro Rail Dhaka | First Train Set has Arrived

 


A set of MRT coaches of Metro rail Dhaka has arrived on 21 April 2021. Two barges carrying the train coaches landed at the Turag River jetty near the Metrorail project depot in Uttara. With these two barges, six coaches of one set of train came to Dhaka via Mongla port from Kobe Port of Japan. The whole set of Metrorail trains has started to be taken to the coach depot on Thursday morning.

Metro Rail Dhaka Project (MRT Line-6) is being implemented under the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). According to the officials of the company, besides the coach of the train from Japan, the device for unloading it from the barge has also been brought. The devices were unloaded on Wednesday. It will be possible to unload four coaches on the first day and bring them to the depot. Plans are afoot to field the remaining two coaches on Friday morning.


All the Metrorail coaches were manufactured in Japan. After fully completed, it started its journey from Kobe port of Japan on March 4 by a vessel. The package arrived at the port of Mongla in Bangladesh on 31 March. After the formalities of the customs authorities, they left for Dhaka by barge. The coaches are covered with separate covers.

DMTCL sources said that the Metro Rail Dhaka coaches will be brought to the depot and the cover will be opened. After 19 types of tests and analysis of all the coaches and engines, they will be taken to the line for test run. This can take one and a half to two months. A device has been brought from Italy for this purpose.

Soon a ceremony would be held after the coaches were lined up. Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader and representatives of Japan will be present. Then the experimental movement will start of the country’s first Metrorail Project. For this, lines, signaling and station infrastructure of metro rail from Uttara Depot to Pallabi are being prepared.


According to project documents, the Kawasaki-Mitsubishi Consortium of Japan was commissioned in 2017 to build 24 sets of trains for DMTCL. Each train sets has two engines and four coaches on either side are being made in Japan. Five sets of trains have already been prepared, the first of which has arrived in the country. The second set is scheduled to depart from Japan on April 15, it may reach on June 16. The third set can leave on June 13 and reach on August 13. The deadline for the other two sets has not been fixed yet.

The price of 24 sets of trains is BDT 3,208.42 crore. After bringing these Metro rail Dhaka Coaches to Bangladesh with customs and VAT, the total cost will be BDT 4,257.34 crore. The trains will have DC 1500 voltage power supply system. The stainless steel body coaches will have vertical seats for passengers. Each train will have two wheelchairs. Each air-conditioned carriage will have four doors on each side. Each train with Japanese standard security will have a passenger capacity of 1,738. There will be smart card ticketing system.


Based on to the latest information of DMTCL, around 62 percent work of the metro rail Dhaka project (MRT line-6) from Uttara 3rd phase to Motijheel has been completed so far. The construction work of this mega metro rail project of Bangladesh has been going on in full swing amid the second wave of COVID-19, especially in Mirpur and Agargaon parts of the capital.

Natural Gas in Bangladesh | Reserve for next 100 Years


Reserves of valuable minerals including Monazite, Zircon, Rutile, Calcium Carbonate, Phosphorus, Sulphate and Rare earth elements have been found in an area of around ​​3,100 Square Km at the bottom of the Bay of Bengal. In addition, a potential 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserve has been found at the bottom of the ocean, with which it is possible to meet the demand of Natural Gas in Bangladesh for the next 100 years.

At present, Reserve of Natural Gas in Bangladesh will be able to serve the country for next 14 years only. Researchers of our country think that in order to develop the Blue Economy of Bangladesh through efficient use of marine resources and the invented technology should be used at the field level. Natural gas in Bangladesh is one of the main resources for the overall development of the country.


This information was given recently by the speakers and researchers at a seminar titled 'Efficient Use and Challenges of Marine Resources for the Development of Blue Economy' organized at the auditorium of Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute (BORI) at Pechar Dwip, Cox's Bazar. Cox's Bazar Marine Fisheries and Technology Center Chief Scientific Officer Mr. Shafiqur Rahman presented the keynote address at the seminar.

Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘Bangladesh has the exclusive marine economic zone up to about 200 nautical miles in the sea, but on an average we are able to use only 30 nautical miles. In addition, commercial trawlers are not allowed to fish at depths below 40 meters, but they do not comply. Due to lack of fishing experience in the deep sea level, the fishermen of our country are fishing near the coastline. However, some fishermen are being brought from Sri Lanka for training purposes so that our fishermen can also bring fish from the deep sea.


Dr. Shafiq said, ‘Lots of Artemia are imported from abroad every year for use as pony food in hatcheries. But three decades ago, scientists of our country have successfully invented the technology to produce Artemia. Scientists of Bangladesh have invented many technologies in the past for the economic development for the people of this country. But that technology was not used at the field level. In order to develop Blue Economy of Bangladesh, it is not only necessary to innovate the technology, it is also necessary to use that technology at the practical level'.


A total of seven articles including research results of Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute for the financial year 2019-20 were presented in the seminar. At the seminar, Mohammad Zakaria, Senior Scientific Officer, Department of Geological Oceanography, Marine Research Institute, presented the results of a geological survey of rare mineral resources at the bottom of the Bay of Bengal. Valuable minerals including monazite, zircon, rutile, calcium carbonate, phosphorus, sulphate and rare earth elements have been found in an area of ​​3,100 sq km at the bottom of the Bay of Bengal. In addition, a potential 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserve for Bangladesh has been found at the bottom of the ocean, with which we will be able to meet our next 100 years of natural gas demand. At present, natural gas in Bangladesh has only 14 years of reserves.

During the seminar, Mr. Tariqul Islam, Scientific Officer, Department of Chemical Oceanography, Mr. Rupak Lodh and Mr. Shahinur Rahman, Scientific Officer, Department of Physical and Space Oceanography, Scientific Officer, Department of Environmental and Climate Research, Department of Oceanography Officers Mir Kashem and Sultan Al Nahyan and Tania Islam, Scientific Officer at the Oceanography Data Center, presented research papers on the potential of depleted food stocks.

Iti Rani Poddar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, was the chief guest at the seminar, which was chaired by Mr. Shafiqur Rahman, Director General, Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute. In addition, the director of the Atomic Energy Commission beach mineral sand extraction center took part in the discussion. Mohammad Masud Karim, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment Sheikh Nazmul Huda, Fisheries expert Palash Khandaker, Ecolife Manager Md. Abdul Qayyum, industrialist Omar Hasan, journalist Ahmad Gias and others.

Bangladesh currently has demand for 3.7 billion cubic feet natural gas per day (bcfd), whereas the gas supply is 2.7bcfd - a massive shortage of 1bcfd of natural gas every day. The reserve of Natural Gas in Bangladesh will be able to run the country for next 14 years. So the government should take proper decisions and steps to utilize the reserved 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas found beneath the Bay of Bengal.

Comilla to be Developed as Tourism Hub


On the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence, the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibor Rahman, an exhibition of photographs of the archeological sites of Comilla region has been inaugurated on 25 March. The Deputy Commissioner of Cumilla, Mohammad Kamrul Hasan inaugurated the exhibition.


Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan said, “I have had the opportunity to work in the Department of Archeology. I have traveled to many countries. Comilla was once the capital of education. Shalban Bihar was built at that time. Comilla will be developed as a hub of tourism. Whatever cooperation is required, I will work in consultation with the Minister”.

The deputy commissioner further said, "I have made a proposal to the minister." Dr. Akhtar Hamid Khan's House, Rani's cottage will be set up as a city museum and Sachin Dev Varman's house as a memorial museum in the city. Tickets will be introduced in both.


Special guests on the occasion were Shawkat Osman, Deputy Director, Local Government, Comilla; Mohammad Sadequzzaman, Former Chairman, Department of Archeology, Comilla University. The ceremony was presided over by the Regional Director of the Department of Archeology, Chittagong and Sylhet, Md. Ataur Rahman. UNO of Sadar Dakshin Comilla Shubhashis Ghosh, Custodian of Mainamati Museum and Shalban Bihar Hasibul Hasan Sumi and others were present on the occasion.

Some Famous Historical Tourist Spots in Cumilla:

  • They are a series of hillocks, where the Northern part is called Moinamoti and the Southern part is called Lalmai.
  • Shalbon Bihar is in the Middle of Lalmai and Moinamoti, which was established in the 8th century by the King Buddadev.
  • Kotila Mura situated on a flattened hillock, about 5 km north of Shalban Vihara inside the Comilla Cantonment is a picturesque Buddhist establishment.
  • Charpatra Mura is an isolated small oblong shrine situated about 2.5 km north-west of kotila Mura stupas.
  • There is also a Moinamoti museum where one can find the historical things found in Lalmai & Moinamoti of the 7th & 8th centuries.
  • Shalbon Bihar was the royal palace for the early Buddhist Students. Students from various places come here for their Meditation and Religious learning. It’s such a quiet place inside a barren forest.
  • About 2 km North of Shalbon Bihar there is another monastery called Ananda Vihara or Anondo Bihar.
