EXIM Bank Ltd. (Export Import Bank of Bangladesh Limited) was established in the year 1999 and stared its banking operation from 3rd August 1999 with the name of Bengal Export Import Bank Limited. The founder chairman of the bank was the famous banker Mr. Shahjahan Kabir. Later on 16th November, 1999 the bank was renamed as Export Import Bank of Bangladesh Limited. In July 2004, the bank has migrated all of its conventional banking operation into Shariah Based Islami Banking.

In 2006 EXIM Bank Bangladesh Limited started its operations on a centralized state of the art IT platform with two modern data centers with the TEMENOS T24 core banking software running on the system, also started ATM service and SMS banking.
