National
Bank Limited (NBL) was incorporated in the year 1983 and inaugurated on 28th
March 1983, established and owned by some fully Bangladeshi Entrepreneurs.
First branch was opened and started commercial banking operations at 48
Dilkusha C/A, Dhaka on 23rd March, 1983. The 2nd branch
of NBL was opened on 11th May, 1983 at Khatungonj, Chittagong. From
the beginning the bank plays an important role in the national economy.
At
present National Bank Limited is operating 200 branches through Bangladesh to
accommodate new customers by developing and expanding rural, SME financing and
offshore banking facilities. It has drawing facilities with 415 correspondents
in 75 countries and also has 37 overseas Exchange Companies located in 13
countries across the world. The NBL first introduced International Master Card
in the country. NBL was awarded Crest in 1999 and 2000, and Certificate of
Appreciation in 2001 by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh.
