Foreign Remittance Earning | Cumilla District is top of Bangladesh



Cumilla district has become topped in the list of foreign remittance earners across the country. The enlightenment of the country's economy is called foreign remittance. The expatriates of the Comilla district have been top for the fourth consecutive year for achieve this foreign remittance earnings. The information was presented at the monthly development coordination meeting of Comilla District Commissioner's Office on January 2019.


The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Fazle Mir. In the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner of Cumilla district congratulated the expatriates of the district for earning this honor. In the meeting, it was reported that Comilla district is at the top in achieving remittance across the country. Currently about eight lac people of this district are living legally in various countries across the Globe. Homna upazila is at the top of all the upazilas in Cumilla district based on numbers. Maximum numbers of expatriate from Homna upazila are working abroad.



In the meeting, the District Commissioner, Abul Fazle Mir said, "We are the servants of the Country. Our task will be to ensure 100 percent transparency in fulfilling the duties for the people of the country, by providing public services to their doorsteps by ensuring accountability. And in the New Year this is what the officials and employees of the country will serve”.

In the meeting the Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun spoke about the overall law and order situation of the district. Other speakers in the meeting were District’s Civil Surgeon Dr. Majibur Rahman, Deputy Director of Comilla Agricultural Extension Dilip Kumar Adhikari, Local Government Division Comilla Zone Deputy Director Mohammad Azizur Rahman, Chairman of Adarsh ​​Sadar Upazila Parishad Advocate Aminul Islam Tutul, Comilla City Corporation Secretary Helal Uddin.


The Expatriates who are living and working abroad, involved in the economic development of Bangladesh. The people of 10 districts of the country from all the 64 districts spend more exile. Based on the information’s of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Training Bureau of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, around 57,74,540 Bangladeshi nationals are staying abroad from the year 2005 to 2015.


1st - Comilla:
Cumilla district is at top of the list, total 6,19,138 people from Cumilla are living abroad from this district.

2nd – Chittagong:
Chittagong district is in the second place of the top ten lists. There are 5,41,709 people living in different countries in the world from this district.

3rd – Brahmanbaria:
B. Baria is in the third place of the top 10 lists. From this district 2,95,381 people went abroad.

4th – Tangail:
Tangail district is in the fourth place on the list. 2,90,717 people living abroad from this district and earning foreign remittance.

5th – Dhaka:
Dhaka district has the fifth position in the list among top 10 districts where the number of NRB is 2,53,734 from Dhaka.


6th – Chandpur:
Chandpur district has the sixth place in the list of exile. Around 2,35,334 people from this district have found employment in different countries across the world.

7th – Noakhali:
Noakhali district is in seventh place among 10 districts where the number of NRB is 2,27,343 who are living and working hard for the country.

8th – Munshiganj:
Munshiganj is at the eighth position among the list. Around 1,73 477 people from this district are living abroad.

9th – Narsingdi:
Narsingdi is the ninth district of the list. Around 1,59,384 people from this district are living and working abroad.

10th – Feni:
Feni district is at the 10th place in the top ten lists. 1,56,199 people from Feni district living and working abroad.

The rest expatriates are from the rest 54 districts of the country.

Cumilla Noakhali regional highway up-gradation into Four Lane



Cumilla to Noakhali is one of the important regional highways in the country which is going to be upgrade to four lanes. Recently upgrading to Cumilla - Noakhali Regional Highway four lane has been started to resolve the traffic congestion on this road. New speed will come in road communication therefore business and commerce in this area. People from all over the country including Comilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Laxmipur districts will get benefits of communication through this highway.



On October 2017 the BDT 21.7 billion project for upgrading the Comilla - Noakhali regional highway to four lanes has been approved with other projects by the Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh.


The Four Lane up gradation work starting from Tomsom Bridge, Comilla to - Noakhali (Begumganj) regional highway from Ch. 28+100 km to Ch. 44+100 km (Lalmai – Laksham - Sonaimuri Regional Highway, R-141, Ch.17+000 to 33+000) under Road Division, Comilla.

This new four-lane under construction project has a canal beside from Laksam to Begumganj. According to the Roads and Highways Department of Comilla, total 59 kilometers of the four-lane highway has been started from Comilla city to Begumganj, Noakhali district.



The up gradation work started in September, 2018 and expected to end in June 2020. Its expenditure has been estimated at BDT Two thousand One hundred Seventy crores only. The land acquisition will cost around BDT 1100 crores.

The whole work is ongoing in five different packages. Four packages are in Comilla part and one package is in Noakhali part. Among all of them a small package has finished in Laksam area. Two packages in Comilla area are in progress. Another package work will start recently after the acquisition of land.



Meanwhile, the work of Noakhali area has been re-tendered. Contracting firm Shamim Enterprise and National Development Engineering, together working to up-gradation of Comilla part. Taher Brothers, Rana Builders and Hassan Builders working jointly in Laksam area.


In Khila, Manoharganj Upazila of Comilla, the soil is filled from the inside of the canal to raise the passage of the road along the canal. This will weaken the base of the road. The road may collapse. However, an official of the organization said, the allegation of placing soft soil in excess of the road is not correct.



Roads and Highways Department Comilla Executive Engineer Mofazzal Haider said, the road to the level of sand and dug at the level will be extended. Up-gradation of Comilla-Noakhali Regional Highway Four Lane is an important project. So we are monitoring the quality of work very seriously. There is no scope for irregularity in the work here.
