Dhaka - Cumilla - Chattogram High Speed Rail



Construction work of the high-sped railway will be introduced soon between the Dhaka – Cumilla – Chattogram routes. The high-speed railway track will be constructed from Dhaka to Chittagong via Laksam, Cumilla which will be totally different from the existing rail track. The government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh has approved the policy approval for this mega project.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed last year on Monday 5th November 2018 with The China Railway Construction Corporation Limited. The project will be implemented together with China on a G2G (Government to Government) basis.

According to the Railway sources, Bangladesh Railway will implement this mega project with an amount of about BD Taka 50,000 Crore.

The approximate length of the Dhaka-Chittagong existing railway track is 320.78 kilometer long. At present, the train from Dhaka goes to Chittagong via Tongi - Bhairab Bazar – Brahmanbaria - Comilla on a circular route which takes 6 to 8 hours. The new high speed rail-line will connect Chittagong via via Narayangong – Daudkandi – Moynamati - Laksam.





The railway ministry is preparing to finalize this mega project so that travelers can reach their destinations within short time. Already consultant has been appointed for feasibility study, designing and construction of the project. There has been considerable progress in designing. The final design will be submitted within this year.

After completion of the project, it will take only 2 hours to travel from Chittagong to Dhaka via Comilla. The bullet train will run on a speed of 200 kilometers per hour. The present government adopts this plan to reduce the journey time between the two major cities of Bangladesh.

The proposed high-speed rail line will be constructed through Fatulla of Narayanganj. The distance will be reduced by 90 kilometers which will be constructed via Comilla Laksam to Chittagong. In addition to the convenience of passengers, the transportation costs of the railways and transportation costs will be reduced as well.

The previous Railway Minister Mr. Mujibul Haque said on one occasion, every divisions of the country will be under high speed railway track. Initially, the government will start a bullet train on the Dhaka-Chittagong route.

Most of the import-export trade has been done by the port of Chittagong. And the business is increasing day by day. Passengers and goods will be transferred faster when the bullet train starts.

In preliminary stage there will be total 12 numbers of stations between this high-speed rail route, these are:
  • Dhaka
  • Narayangonj
  • Daudkandi
  • Mohanpur (Chandina)
  • Mainamati (Comilla Sadar South)
  • Laksham
  • Feni
  • Kalidaha
  • Mirsharai
  • Dharmo Pur
  • Salim Pur
  • Chittagong





The high speed railway in Bangladesh is a mega project of dream. The initiative has taken by the government. Deal with a Chinese company also completed. Hope the construction work will start soon and completed in due time.
