After
nearly 40 years for the first time, the first surgery in Comilla's Homna
Upazila Health Complex was successfully done. After the successful surgery a pregnant
woman has became a mother at the Operation Theater on last week.
The
health complex was opened on 19 July in 1979. There was no surgery operation was
done in the hospital for about last 40 years. Due to absence of an operation
theater in the government hospital, many people in the Homna Upazila and the surrounding
areas have suffered. However by the successful cesarean operation and birth of
a baby has changed the history of the hospital.
According
to Health Department and local sources and newspapers, the patient name was
Zobeda Akter, wife of Saddam Hossein of Alipur village under Homna Upazila. She
was was admitted to the Upazila Health Complex last week. She became the first
mother. Naturally fear and anxiety were working among maternity and kin.
However, after three hours with the help of three doctors, three senior nurses
and staffs, she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl by a cesarean operation.
According
to newspapers report, the condition of the mother was not in good shape. Fluid
intake was greatly reduced. The newborn's movement and condition were somewhat
more complicated than the normal delivery phase. In such a case, the relatives
of the patient thought about having a cesarean operation in an outside clinic.
But the patient's family was not financial solvent.
The
operation theater of the hospital was fully prepared in the last 15 days of the
first operation. Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Sarfaraz Hossain Khan
(Anesthesiologist), Dr. Akhtar Alam (Surgeon), Dr. Subrata, senior staff nurse
Jahanara, Jasmine, Rumi Akhter, OT Boy Monir Hossain and Ruhul Amin helped a
lot of the successful cesarean operation of the maternity ward. And by this operation
the Operation Theater has opened for the first time. It met the 40 years expectations
of the people of Homna upazilas.
After
the operation the Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Sarfaraz Hossain Khan
said, "After a long period of 40 years, we successfully conducted a
cesarean operation with trained doctors and nurses at the government hospital.
However, they had to buy medicines from outside. At present both mother and
baby condition is well.
The
Comilla district Civil Surgeon Mojibur Rahman said regarding this matter that it
was good news for patients of Homna and surrounding areas. Patients will now be
able to take advantage of almost every possible operation, including a
caesarean.
