Brahman Para Came into existence as a Thana in 1976

History and Background:
Brahmanpara upazila came into existence in 1976 as a thana. Nothing is definitely known about the origin of the upazila name. It is learnt that during British rule there lived an influential Brahmin at the present place of the upazila headquarters. He was an employee of the then East India Company. His ancestors developed a Brahmin section in the locality. There is a general belief that the upazila has been named Brahmanpara after the Brahmins.

Area and Location:

The upazila occupies an area of 128.48 sq. km or 49.60 sq. mile. It is located between 23°35' and 23°44' north latitudes and between 91°03' and 91°11' east longitudes. The upazila is bounded on the north by Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria zila, on the east by India, on the south by Burichang upazila and on the west by Debidwar and Muradnagar upazila.
