The world's longest marine drive from Cox’s Bazar to Teknaf has changed the tourism and economic of the existing area. This Marine Drive is about 80 km long stretches from Kalatali beach in Cox's Bazar to Sabrang, Teknaf. After completion, this marine drive was inaugurated on May 6, 2017 by the present Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina.
The construction work was carried out by the Bangladesh Army under the Bangladesh Roads and Highways Department. The Army's 16-Engineer Construction Battalion was engaged in the construction work of the road.
Total construction
cost was about BDT 456 crore. The construction work was supposed to be
completed in 2018, but it was completed a year ago. The road became attractive
to the tourists. The Marine Drive has been constructed in three phases:
- In the first phase 24 km road from Kalatali of Cox's Bazar city to Inani
- The second phase 24 km road from Shilkhali to Teknaf Sadar
- The t phase 32 km road from Shilkhali to Sabrang of Teknaf
It is planned to extend the 80 km long (Cox's Bazar - Teknaf) marine drive to Mirsarai in Chittagong since the construction is completed before the expected schedule. Initiatives have been taken to build 170 km long marine drive from Teknaf in Cox's Bazar to Mirsarai in Chittagong. This road is connected to the existing 80 km Marine Drive from Cox's Bazar to Teknaf. Its length will be about 250 kilometers.
There are plans to build numerous resorts, hotels, motels and restaurants for tourists from Mirsarai to Teknaf around this marine drive road. There will be small sea-beaches in some places. It is possible to earn thousands of crores of BDT every year from the tourism industry around this marine drive.
The raw material business will associated with it. In addition, the Blue Economy will also get benefited. The immense potential of Bangladesh in the maritime economy can be harnessed by using this marine drive. The amount of fish resources extracted from the sea can be delivered to any part of the country within the fastest time only because of the Marine Drive. This sea road is playing a big role in keeping the wheel of economy moving here.
Due to this marine drive, the appearance of the surrounding areas including the special economic zone of Chittagong region will also be changing. In addition, the implementation of this project created a new economic belt in the eastern part of the country. The coastal area of Chittagong-Cox's Bazar will be protected. When its construction is completed, a groundbreaking change will take place in the coastal areas of Chittagong and Cox's Bazar.
It will be the longest and most scenic marine drive in the world. The socio-economic condition of the people will also change. Unemployment will decrease in that region. Various job opportunities will be created. The country's economy will be stronger.
The Marine
Drive will be connected to the Chittagong Port, Bay Terminal under construction
at Patenga in Chattogram and the proposed mini port on the Sitakunda coast. The
Marine Drive will also play an important role in disaster management in coastal
areas. The benefits of Marine Drive can be found especially during storms and
tidal surges.
Lots of star-class
hotels, motels, resorts, restaurants are being built here beside this longest
marine drive. Inani beach is the most beautiful and exclusive tourist beach in
the Cox’s Bazar district. Various initiatives and projects has already been taken
