A set of MRT coaches of Metro rail Dhaka has arrived on 21 April 2021. Two barges carrying the train coaches landed at the Turag River jetty near the Metrorail project depot in Uttara. With these two barges, six coaches of one set of train came to Dhaka via Mongla port from Kobe Port of Japan. The whole set of Metrorail trains has started to be taken to the coach depot on Thursday morning.
Metro Rail Dhaka Project (MRT Line-6)
is being implemented under the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
According to the officials of the company, besides the coach of the train from
Japan, the device for unloading it from the barge has also been brought. The
devices were unloaded on Wednesday. It will be possible to unload four coaches
on the first day and bring them to the depot. Plans are afoot to field the
remaining two coaches on Friday morning.
All the Metrorail coaches were manufactured in Japan. After fully completed, it started its journey from Kobe port of Japan on March 4 by a vessel. The package arrived at the port of Mongla in Bangladesh on 31 March. After the formalities of the customs authorities, they left for Dhaka by barge. The coaches are covered with separate covers.
DMTCL sources said that the Metro Rail Dhaka coaches will be brought to the depot and the cover will be opened. After 19 types of tests and analysis of all the coaches and engines, they will be taken to the line for test run. This can take one and a half to two months. A device has been brought from Italy for this purpose.
Soon a ceremony would be held after
the coaches were lined up. Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul
Quader and representatives of Japan will be present. Then the experimental
movement will start of the country’s first Metrorail Project. For this, lines,
signaling and station infrastructure of metro rail from Uttara Depot to Pallabi
are being prepared.
According to project documents, the Kawasaki-Mitsubishi Consortium of Japan was commissioned in 2017 to build 24 sets of trains for DMTCL. Each train sets has two engines and four coaches on either side are being made in Japan. Five sets of trains have already been prepared, the first of which has arrived in the country. The second set is scheduled to depart from Japan on April 15, it may reach on June 16. The third set can leave on June 13 and reach on August 13. The deadline for the other two sets has not been fixed yet.
The price of 24 sets of trains is BDT
3,208.42 crore. After bringing these Metro rail Dhaka Coaches to Bangladesh
with customs and VAT, the total cost will be BDT 4,257.34 crore. The trains
will have DC 1500 voltage power supply system. The stainless steel body coaches
will have vertical seats for passengers. Each train will have two wheelchairs.
Each air-conditioned carriage will have four doors on each side. Each train
with Japanese standard security will have a passenger capacity of 1,738. There
will be smart card ticketing system.
Based on to the latest information of
DMTCL, around 62 percent work of the metro rail Dhaka project (MRT line-6) from
Uttara 3rd phase to Motijheel has been completed so far. The construction work
of this mega metro rail project of Bangladesh has been going on in full swing
amid the second wave of COVID-19, especially in Mirpur and Agargaon parts of the
capital.
